Nine Metro Vancouver casinos compared

This page sets the nine Metro Vancouver casinos side by side in one table of published hours and features. Nine glyphs are drawn from that table, and none of them is a score.

The nine in numbers

Floor hours are published for seven of the nine casinos. Four of those seven are open 24 hours a day: Parq Casino, Grand Villa Casino Burnaby, Starlight Casino New Westminster and Cascades Casino Langley. Table hours are published for four casinos, whose glyphs carry arcs in the inner ring. The other rings stay empty. Holiday hours are not drawn and should be checked on each casino's own site.

Six casinos have a poker room. Five have a hotel on site or adjoining. Four have a racebook or simulcast racing, and four have a transit hub within 1 km in a straight line. A hollow dot means the facts do not list that feature.

Shapes that recur

Four glyphs have seven full rays: Parq Casino, Grand Villa Casino Burnaby, Starlight Casino New Westminster and Cascades Casino Langley. Each floor is open 24 hours a day, every day. Their rings are empty, because none of the four publishes separate table hours.

Hastings Casino and Cascades Casino Delta draw shorter rays with a fixed closing time. Both open at 11 AM and close at 12 AM, or at 2 AM on Friday and Saturday.

Great Canadian Casino Vancouver and River Rock Casino Resort publish no hours for the whole floor, so their rays are dashed. Their table hours run without a break from Friday 10 AM to Monday 4 AM, which fills the ring for Saturday and Sunday. Elements Casino Surrey has full rays from Friday to Sunday. Monday to Thursday run 10 AM to 4 AM, and the first hours of Monday are dashed, since they are not stated.

Comparing two glyphs

Drag one glyph onto another, or use the compare buttons. Marks the two glyphs share fade out. Differences stay lit: a ray of a different length, an arc in one ring but not the other, a dot filled on one rim and hollow on the other.

A plain list of the differences appears below the field, so nothing depends on reading the shapes alone.

Questions about the marks

Which glyph has all four dots filled at the rim?

River Rock Casino Resort is the one glyph with all four dots filled. It has a 10-table poker room, a hotel joined to the casino by a sky bridge and a racebook for off-track betting on horse races. Bridgeport Station is 0.2 km away in a straight line.

Which glyphs have dashed rays?

Great Canadian Casino Vancouver and River Rock Casino Resort. Both publish hours for their live tables but not for the whole floor, so their rings are drawn and their rays are dashed. On the Elements Casino Surrey glyph, the first hours of Monday are dashed as well.

Does a bigger glyph mean a better casino?

A bigger glyph is not a better casino. Longer rays mean more published hours on that day, and a full ray is 24 hours. The glyph is the shape of the data and says nothing about quality.
